KATY J PEARSON

Thursday, November 14 – 8:30 PM, Teatro Regio Parma

An English singer-songwriter who turns chaos into enveloping melodies.

In the two albums she has released so far, Katy J Pearson has demonstrated a remarkable songwriting ability, combined with her eclectic performance style, making her hard to classify within a specific genre. An artist who comes from the pop world, yet in her relatively short career, has shown an evolutionary trajectory and a maturation process that has hybridised her sound.

Pop as a foundation—her voice, after all, is steeped in harmony. Pop that merges with folk (more or less traditional), where melody rhymes with melancholy. A melancholy that echoes through post-punk and neo-psychedelic sounds. Her third album “Someday, Now”, set to release on September 20, promises to be her most assured and mature work yet, with a ten-track list blending heart-wrenching confessions and nocturnal melodies. The single “Those Goodbyes” is a pop hit with big choruses and synthesisers, perhaps signalling a shift in her artistic production.

Katy has recently collaborated with Yard Act, Metronomy, Orlando Weeks, and Wet Leg to reinterpret the soundtrack of “The Wicker Man” on the 50th anniversary of the film. Katy J Pearson’s musical offering stands at the crossroads between catchy mainstream hits and a deeper, more intricate indie singer-songwriter style.
